There is always something happening in this wonderful town.
If you feel like indulging in a cooking class, The Akaroa Cooking School have a great range of classes to teach you some new skills in the kitchen. This week (Friday) is a surprise location dinner and on cunday is a Fathers day Cooking class.

There are some great art exhibitions on. Check out Gallery Lavaud and the Little River Gallery all showcasing a variety of talented artists and art.

Bully Hayes is very popular with locals and visitors and the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. Thursday night is specials night. Happy hour is every night from 6.30pm onwards. Friday is also a special night with an "Asian" style dish featured each week. The new winter menu is out now. Try the goat curry on the menu. 03 304 7533.
L'Hotel has a fabulous new winter menu and cosy fire for winter atmosphere. Along with one of the best harbour views in town with a great sheltered terrace. 03 304 7559.
L'Escargot Rouge was previously Ma Maison Deli and has great coffee and wonderful food with a French twist. The best pies in town can be found here. 03 304 8774.
French Farm Winery is the place to go for that special lunch. Pizza's and fine dining with a great setting. Phone first as they may be closed for a private function. 03 304 5784. Sorry we are closed for the winter.
Truby's on the waterfront is right on the beach where all the sea action is, a casual eatery where the sea laps in front of the tables. Enjoy the slices & coffees, & a wine in the evening. Famous for its blue cod and chips for only $15. 03 304 7707. Sorry we are closed for the winter.
By Jove Restaurant & Cafe on Beach Road has great coffee, muffins, pizzas and casual dining for the whole family. 03 304 8060.
Ma Maison Restaurant & Bar by Daly's Wharf has great views and fine cuisine to be enjoyed all year round. They are open from 10am for breakfast, lunch & dinner and from 4-6pm is happy hour. Friday night is Specials night. 03 304 7668.
Vangionis has fabulous tapas and mediterranean dining. Try interesting and flavoursome food by candle light for that special exotic dining experience. Check out the winter specials on offer. 03 304 7714.

Quirky Collections III, the third in the Museum's exhibitions featuring local collectors and their collections. This year featuring Liz Coubrough's colanders, Kerry Walker's model aircraft, John Couling's miniature carousels, Brian Bremner's Weetbix cards, Carol Osgood's cats' whiskers, June Brown's salt and pepper shakers and Dave Flynn's 45s. |

Exhibition at The Little River Gallery -Diana Adams-Land of Light |

That raw resounding moment when you absorb a vista and you are left with an unorgettable story..... a palate of memory. Diana manages to extrude a landscape and lay it down on the canvas for us to be able to say "been there, felt that". It is a homecoming for those both from within our shores and beyond. Paintings can be viewed here from 9 September. Pre-sales will be accepted from 12.00pm 9 September. |

'Fresh from the Wharf' Cooking Classes at the Akaroa Cooking School |

Seafood, seafood and more seafood. We head down to the end of the wharf to see what the boat has brought in and head back to the school to learn how to create some fabulous dishes with the fresh bounty. Book in with them now for 'Fresh from the Wharf'. A long lunch at the dining table will be served savouring every dish from the class with matching NZ wines. You will leave with all of the recipes from the day and all participants need to bring are their culinary interest and an appetite. Classes cost $175 including all food and wine. |

Takahe to Akaroa Road Relay |
| |
Annual Takahe to Akaroa Road Relay organised by the Athletics Canterbury Cross Country & Road Club. The first teams are expected to arrive at the Recreation Ground, Akaroa at approximately 2.00pm. The prizegiving will begin at 4.00pm at which time the fastest team into Akaroa will present the baton carrying the message from Bob Parker to Stewart Miller, the Chairman of the Akaroa/Waiwera Community Board. |

'Gourmet in a Day' Cooking Classes at the Akaroa Cooking School with Lou Bentley |

The day will kick off at 10am with tea, coffee and some freshly baked treats from the kitchen. You will then get comfortable and spend the next couple of hours watching the cooking demonstrations and learning about the produce and the techniques involved in creating a fabulous 3 course meal with some canapés to start. Then its time to tuck in to the mouth watering treats that have been demonstrated along with carefully selected matching NZ wines. The day will finish up around 3pm and you will then be free to walk off lunch around scenic Akaroa. Classes cost $175 including all food and wine. |

Feast of Akaroa |
| |
Akaroa Community Food and Wine Fest to celebrate the start of the new season. This 'Feast of Akaroa' will be an expansion of the regular Akaroa Farmers Market, plus community and local business stalls with a focus on Akaroa food and beverage products. This is a free event for the public held on the Recreation Grounds with children’s activities, entertainment and a marquee for people to sit and relax and enjoy food purchased. This is the first Sunday of the school holidays. It will run from 10am until 2pm.

Artspot 11: Red-Red or Read |

ArtSpot is a community Art exhibition where anyone, young or old can enter their art work. Tune into your creative imagination & show your photos, sculpture, fabric, lino-cuts and art. Any age, any stage. You are invited to enter your work & show us how creative you can be with Texture & Technology. Any one can contribute art to the Akaroa Community Arts Council Art Exhibition. Art needs to be delivered by 6pm Thursday 30 September April to St Peters Church on Rue Balguerie where the exhibition will take place. It is free for anyone to enter and free to visit and the work can be sold if the artist wishes. Open all 3 days from 10-5pm. The theme this time is ' Red-Red 0r Read'. |

Manderley Home & Garden Festival |

Set in a beautiful valley on Banks Peninsula the garden and grounds of Manderley is the perfect location to showcase 140 stalls selected for their quality and originality. Akaroa Classic & Traditional Boat Regatta |
| |
The regatta will be centered on the Akaroa Recreation Ground and the adjacent water of the inner harbour. On display and on the water will be a wide range of traditional and classic boats which have been restored or have been built as replicas of traditional and classical designs. Most will be sailing craft but some steam launches and other powered craft are expected as well. All are of wooden construction and the restored boats being at least 40 years old. The oldest boat expected is a Logan launch built in Auckland 1902. Akaroa Harbour is a beautiful harbour in which to appreciate all boating activity. Come and enjoy the regatta and make a weekend of it. |

Le Race |

This annual cycle race starts in Cathedral Square, Christchurch at 7.30am for the pre-race briefing! And then it's all go at 8.00am. The finish line is in the centre of Akaroa, followed by prize giving on the Akaroa recreation ground. Make a weekend of it by booking into 1 of the many wonderful B&B's in Akaroa and enjoy a family weekend away. |

French Festival 2011 |

The Akaroa French Festival is now every second year. We look forward to seeing you in October 2011. Escape to picturesque Akaroa and immerse yourself in French culture, entertainment and romance as you celebrate Akaroa’s unique French connection at the Akaroa French Festival - Friday 28 October to Sunday 30 October.
