At the heart of Horomako (Banks Peninsula) lies the Community.
Each little community has at least one community facility – usually a hall or school and a reserve. There are numerous organisations/societies/trusts/informal groups & sports clubs and over 100 community groups in this area. (That is one for every 27 people and many people belong to several groups).
The area has a predominantly European population and tourism growth has evolved steadily over the past 20 years providing a major component of the districts economy. Farming and agriculture/horticulture is also an important part of life here. Rural fire and emergency services are an essential element of local cooperation.
Residents enjoy a positive lifestyle, sense of community, and personal and community safety.
