| An Exhibition by Ashley Smith- Wry asides from our past, present & future. Visually recorded history is a haphazard affair. Seemingly milestone moments are revealed as staged while genuine ones are bypassed. Sometimes it’s the aside – not the big pose - that tells the story. Amongst this show’s riot of imagery Ashley renders grandly the thin promise & spotlights the unapplauded heroism of the everyday. An unmarked statistic becomes a comic outrage while a traditional sepia work records a sporting event that hasn’t happened yet. …And how do you capture an event, like the one overarching all our lives, that refuses to stop happening!?. |
