Brief Description
Poetry day is the celebration of anything poetic!. Join the Akaroa Community Arts Council in an afternoon and evening of poetry.

Three free events.;11.00am at the Coronation Library , Rue Jolie. Refreshment and Rhyme. Listen or read your favourite poems, your own poems or a friends delightful ditties whilst sipping on a hot cup of tea or coffee and nibbling a biscuit or two. Pam Ayres will be there ( on DVD ) to perform The Akaroa Cannon - a reflective verse of happy times spent in Akaroa.  2-30pm at the cannon by the main wharf. Sizzling Sonnets and Sausages. Its the last day of the school holidays so bring the kids and their favourite poetry down to the cannon for a free hot dog ($1.00 for adults ) and lots of laughs. Geared towards the younger members of the community ( and the young at heart ), limericks, nonesense and everyones favourite childrens poetry,  out in the open . 7.00pm at the Coronation Library, Rue Jolie. Wine and Whimsy. BYO for a scintillating soiree of music , melody and magnificient mutterings (!) by candlelight. Pam Ayres will be there on DVD and  even better, West Coast poet and former Akaroa resident and member of the Banks Peninsula Poets and Writers Co-Operative , Lynda Driver, will perform some of her works at 7-30pm.
