| Brief Description |
Disasters, Mysteries & Sensations, the Akaroa Museum’s summer exhibition, has opened at the Museum. Demonstrating that the past was a dangerous place, the exhibition features stories of suffering, accidental death, and peril. Nine panels will focus on sensational stories from Akaroa’s past, including a plane that plummeted into the main street in 1940, the fatal Metropole Hotel fire of 1962, and the tragic story of the 1868 wreck of the ship Crest. Raging epidemics, mysterious disappearances and out-of-control horses round out the catalogue of mayhem.
The exhibition will be on display until March 2009.
